Sense of Style

One of the challenges I’m facing in my writing right now is going between journalistic writing and fiction.

I spent 10 years in journalism and now write press releases for the media. So by day, I follow Associated Press Style. And though I welcome the freedom and creativity that comes with writing fiction, it’s tough to shake off those strict AP rules.

The most obvious example of this, of course, is the use of the Oxford comma. I think I used it throughout my manuscript…but I’m crossing my fingers that I didn’t miss any!

Maybe I should include a disclaimer with any agent queries: Caution (and apologies) – may contain accidental uses of AP Style!

Any other journalists turned aspiring authors have this problem?
